Save Big with Rebates for Heating Systems & Boilers
Everyone loves to save money. But boilers, furnaces and hot water heaters use a lot of energy, especially throughout Winnipeg’s famous winters. Keep reading to find out how you can reduce your energy costs with a little help from the rebates offered by Manitoba Hydro.
Hot Water and Home Heating Facts
Heating your home in the winter and supplying it with hot water for showers, laundry and washing dishes accounts for the biggest part of any home’s energy bill. But not everyone’s bills are the same, even if you’re living in similar types of dwellings. The amount of your home energy bills depends on a number of factors including:
- The age and fuel source of your boilers or furnace
- The age and degree of energy efficiency of your HVAC system
- The cost of energy in Winnipeg at the time
- The size and type of dwelling you live in
- The amount and quality of your home’s insulation
- Your lifestyle, usage and the number of people living inside your home
The Benefits of Energy Efficient Systems
Many of the older heating systems and boilers in Winnipeg homes haven’t been outfitted with the latest energy saving technology. These older units burn more energy than necessary to deliver heat and hot water throughout your home. Upgrading to a new system can help increase your home’s energy efficiency and reduce your monthly energy costs.
Rebates available from Manitoba Hydro
To help reduce the monthly costs associated with heating and hot water, Manitoba Hydro has developed two programs to help homeowners improve the energy efficiency of their homes:
- Power Smart Affordable Energy Program
The Power Smart Affordable Energy Program provides rebates for eligible homeowners who upgrade their HVAC systems. The program also provides free energy-saving items like low-flow showerheads, aerators and energy efficient light bulbs and upgrades such as free insulation and cash rebates on the purchase of high-efficiency natural gas boilers.
- Heat Recovery Ventilator Control Program
Manitoba Hydro’s Heat Recovery Ventilator Control Program provides eligible homeowners with a $150 rebate when they install an advanced heat recovery ventilator (HRV) control on their existing heating system. Having a professional install an HRV can help you regulate and prevent humidity problems in your home and even provides a little bit of energy savings.
